JOOYOUN LEE 이주연

JOOYOUN LEE is a Seoul-based Designer and Filmmaker who holds a BFA in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

 

Her time in Los Angeles served as a creative foundation, allowing her to explore visual language and narrative structures across diverse cultural contexts while expanding her understanding of storytelling and its limitless expressive possibilities.

Her practice is deeply grounded in narrative, using it as a powerful tool to construct both form and meaning. Working across mediums, she has continuously experimented with various techniques and materials through visuals. At the core of her work lies an ongoing inquiry into story, exploring how it moves emotion, shifts perception, and shapes identity.

Recently, she directed Blanket Shield, an animated short film combining stop motion and 2D animation. In this project, she led a collaborative team of artists, guiding the production from concept to final execution. As director, she led the team from concept to final execution, successfully collaborating with creators from diverse disciplines.

She now extends this narrative approach and project leadership into the field of Brand Experience (BX), focusing on designing identities through storytelling that foster meaningful connections. Alongside her creative practice, she continues to deepen her expertise through the study of brand strategy.
